1. A braking device for rail vehicles, comprising two brake blocks (7) which can be applied at diametrically opposed points on the rim of a vehicle wheel (17), the first of which blocks (7) is attached to the central part of a brake lever (5) with its upper end linked to the chassis of the vehicle (1) and its lower end pivoting on one end of a connecting rod (15) mounted laterally on the wheel of the vehicle, and the second of which blocks (7) is linked to the central part of a movable brake lever (5) permanently attached at one end to the vehicle and bearing a brake cylinder (9), the brake piston of which acts either directly or indirectly on the other end of the connecting rod (15), the said connecting rod being equipped with a rod adjuster (13) to regulate the play of the brake blocks (7), possessing the characteristic feature that the brake levers (5, 5'), as is generally known, cross the plane of the wheel (45) at an angle.

Bei einer Bremseinrichtung mit am Radumfang diametral angeordneten Bremshebeln (5, 5'), die durch eine parallel zur Fahrzeugradebene (45) geführte Verbindungsstange (13, 15) verbunden sind, erhalten die die Bremsklötze (7) tragenden Brems- bzw. Traghebel (5, 5') eine die Fahrzeugradebene (45) kreuzende Schrägstellung, wobei die oberen, fahrzeugfest angelenkten Enden der Hebel auf der einen Seite der Radebene (45) und die unteren Enden der Hebel, an denen die Verbindungsstange (13, 15) angelenkt ist, auf der anderen Seite der Radebene (45) liegen. Da sämtliche am Bremshebel (5, 5') liegenden Kraftangriffs- bzw. Anlenkungsstellen in einer Ebene, nämlich der Längsrichtung des Hebels (5, 5') liegen, erfährt dieser keine ihn verwindenden Torsionskräfte. Auch bei Vorhandensein eines Übersetzungshebels gestattet es die beschriebene Anordnung, Verwindungskräfte von den genannten Hebeln fernzuhalten.
