Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0080655A1] 1. A process for the production of fibrous mats based on plastics material, wherein fibres which consist of cured melamine resin and may te provided with a binder based on a melamine, phenolic or urea resin are laid down to form mats which have the following properties : a) the thickness is from 20 to 200 mm, perferably from 50 to 100 mm ; (b) the density is from 10 to 15C g/l**-1 , preferably from 15 to 50 g/l ; (c) the thermal conductivity according to DIN 52.612 is less than 0.05 W/m-1/** degree K**-1 and is preferably from 0.03 to 0.04 W/m**-1 /degree K**-1 ; (d) the sound adsorption according to DIN 52.215-63 at 2500 H3 , converted from vertical to three-dimensional sound incidence, is greater than 90%, preferably greater than 95% ; (e) the recovery, measured on a 100 mm thick mat which was compressed to a thickness of 30 mm in the course of 2 minutes and kept at this thickness for 24 hours, is so good that the mat, upon release of the pressure, immediately springs back to a thickness of morethan 80 mm, preferably of more than 90 mm, and after 6 hours has attained a thickness of morethan 98 mm, preferably of more than 99 mm ; and (f) the burning behavior is so good that in the burning test according to DIN 4102, Part.2, the produclassed as a 81 building material (self-extinguishing).
