Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0086507A2] Small continuous holes are punched at equal intervals in a strip of mint metal, wire portions made of ferromagnetic material are riveted into these holes, and finally coin blanks are punched out of the strip. The metal strip can consist of non-magnetic material or of a laminated material with a ferromagnetic layer included. In this way, coins and stamps can be equipped with one or more exactly arranged coding points which can be used in appropriately designed coin testers, in addition to other test criteria, in order to differentiate low-value foreign coins or counterfeits. The imitation of such a coding would be possible only at an outlay exceeding the face value of the coin, and there can therefore can no longer be any incitement to deception.
