1. An embossing machine for stamping characters into components, with an embossing head having a motor-driven and rotationally adjustable type wheel (54) with types (86) and at least one blank (L) carried by spring arms (84) arranged around its circumference, and with a ram (88) acting on the back of the types in conjunction with a motor drive (106) containing a cam (100), the rotational adjustment of the type wheel (54) being synchronised with the ram action, characterised in that the drive motor (106) associated with the ram (88) drives the cam (100) with a continuous rotary motion, the cam (100) acting on the ram (88) to determine the embossing cycle, and in that the type wheel (54) is driven independently of the drive motor (106) by a motor (78), its rotational adjustment being controlled by the cycle of the cam movement.

Eine Prägemaschine zum Prägen von Typenkennzeichnungen weist einen Prägekopf mit einem Typenrad 54 auf. Vermittels einer Antriebseinheit wird eine Relativbewegung zwischen dem Prägekopf und dem zu prägenden Werkstück in wenigstens zwei zueinander senkrechten Richtungen ermöglicht. Hierzu kann ein Typenschilder (90) halternder positionierender Schlitten (20) dienen, der in einer Koordinatenrichtung verschiebbar ist und synchron angetriebene Rollen (42,44) in einer zur Verschieberichtung senkrechten zweiten Koordinatenrichtung trägt. In einer alternativen Anordnung ist der Prägekopf an einem Portal über dem zu prägenden Werkstück in allen Richtungen verschiebbar. Das Typenrad (54) trägt über Federelemente einzelne Prägeplättchen (86), welche von einem exzenterbetätigten Stößel (88) gegen die Prägefläche des Typenschildes (90) gedrückt werden. Der Stößel (88) läuft kontinuierlich durch. Das Typenrad (54) kann konisch abgekröpft sein.
