[origin: US4672705A] A method for the continuous and uniform application of controlled amounts of treating liquor on a liquid receptive material web comprising passing the web over a counter-roll having a resilient, non-skid surface and then passing the web onto an applicator roll with a metallic cylinder surface that has been dipped into a vat of treating liquor and making the treating liquor a uniform film on the roll. The treating liquor is tested before use by placing a quantity of the liquor in a mixing container, rotating the container for a first period and measuring the volume of treating liquor plus foam that develops in the container, and making two subsequent volume readings after further periods of time, adding all of the volume readings and comparing the sum with a standard value, and also determining that each volume reading is less than the preceding reading, and rejecting treating liquor which does not meet the foregoing requirements.

Die Vorrichtung dient zum kontinuierlichen, gleichmässigen Aufbringen von geregelten Mengen an Flotte auf eine aufnahmefähige Materialbahn (4). Diese Bahn (4) gelangt auf eine Weichgummiwalze (6), umschlingt sie mit einem Winkel von 45 bis 120°, meist ca. 100°, und wird auf eine metallene Applikationswalze (1) abgegeben, die sich in der Regel langsamer dreht als die Bahn (4) transportiert wird, so dass letztere den aus dem Trog (3) herangeführten Film an Flotte (2) schleifend abzieht. Die Dicke des Walzenspaltes (S) ist kleiner als die mittlere Dicke der Bahn. Die Bahn (4) gelangt daher in einer Mantellinie (19) auf die Applikationswalze (1), die vor der Verbindungsebene (E) der Achse der beiden parallelen Walzen (1, 6) liegt. Die Bahn verlässt die Applikationswalze nach Durchlaufen einer Berührungsstrecke (Winkel α1) auf deren Oberfläche. Man erzielt gleichmässige Aufträge beliebiger Mengen an Flotte auf beliebigen aufnahmefähigen Bahnmaterialien. Die Verwendung einer metallenen Auftragswalze (1) bedingt die Anwendung bestimmter, zur Erfindung gehörender Flotten. Ungleichmässige, besonders für gewollte Inegalitätseffekte geeignete Aufträge erzielt man durch eine regellose Störung des Flottenfilms auf der Applikationswalze.
