Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0179325A2] According to the invention, in a swing clamp which can serve to secure in particular a workpiece (13) or a tool to a processing machine, preferably conically formed clamping elements (4, 5) with wedge surfaces facing one another are provided in order to obtain releasable locking of a clamping piston (1), guided in a preferably two-piece cylinder housing (6, 7), in any axial and angular position of this housing, which clamping elements (4, 5) come into effect between cylinder housing and clamping piston. The shape of the wedge surfaces brings about wedge interlocking between the interacting clamping elements if these clamping elements are telescoped in the axial direction of the clamping piston by a locking piston (18) which can be acted upon by hydraulic pressure independently of the clamping piston. Even without continuing to maintain the hydraulic pressure on the locking piston (18), the wedge interlocking holds the clamping elements together and thus secures the clamping piston in its respective position in the cylinder housing until the clamping elements are pushed apart again by means of a release piston (17) counteracting the locking piston (18) in the opposite direction, for which purpose the release piston (17) can be acted upon by hydraulic pressure independently of the clamping piston and the locking piston. <IMAGE>
