[origin: US4719966A] A continuous casting mold has four walls each having a cooled surface and an end face. The walls are arranged so that the end face of each wall abuts the cooled surface of another wall. The cooled surfaces cooperate to define a casting passage of square or rectangular cross section. Two or more of the mold walls are shiftable transverse to the casting direction for the purpose of changing the dimensions of the casting passage. At least one of the shiftable walls is movable along a direction making an acute angle with the respective cooled surface.

Zum Verstellen einer Stranggiesskokille mit im wesentlichen rechteckigem Formhohlraum-Querschnitt (13) werden ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung vorgeschlagen, die eine Verstellung in zwei Dimensionen gleichzeitig zulassen. Der Kokillenaufbau bei diesem Verfahren besteht aus einem Rahmen (2) und vier daran befestigten Formwänden(3 - 6), wobei die vier Ecken des Formhohlraumes (13) durch Zusammenstossen einer gekühlten Formwandfläche (z.B. 8) mit einer Stirnseite (16) einer benachbarten Formwand (4) gebildet werden. Zur Verstellung des Formhohlraumes (13) werden Formwände (4, 5, 6) quer zur Stranglaufrichtung bewegt. Die Formwand (5) wird dabei entlang einer Bewegungskomponente (18) verschoben, die zu ihrer gekühlten Formwandfläche (10) einen spitzen Winkel (20) bildet.
