[origin: US4828191A] A method for sorting cheeses on an automatic winding machine includes predetermining a set-point value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter. An actual value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter is automatically measured. The measured values are automatically compared with the set-point values. Cheeses for which the actual value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter is within a predetermined range of the set-point value ratio are automatically selected as quality cheeses.
