An apparatus for coating a material web (2) led round a counter-roller (1) with an application chamber (3) open towards the counter-roller (1) and extending over the working width, which chamber is limited on the web in-feed side by an overflow plate (4), and with a metering system (9), which closes the gap in the rear of the apparatus in the direction of web travel, features an ink guide channel (12) connected on the exit side to the application chamber (3). <??>The ink guide channel (12) is limited on the one side by the counter-roller (1) and on the other side by a guiding surface (8) essentially parallel to the counter-roller surface and ends just before the metering system (12). Eine Vorrichtung zum Beschichten einer um eine Gegenwalze (1) geführten Materialbahn (2) mit einer zur Gegenwalze (1) offenen, sich über die Arbeitsbreite erstreckenden Auftragkammer (3), die an der Bahneinlaufseite von einer Überlaufplatte (4) begrenzt ist, und mit einem Dosiersystem (9), das die Vorrichtung in Bahnlaufrichtung hinten abschließt, weist einen auslaufseitig an die Auftragkammer (3) angeschlossenen Farbleitkanal (12) auf. Der Farbleitkanal (12) wird einerseits von der Gegenwalze (1), andererseits von einer im wesentlichen zum Gegenwalzenmantel parallelen Leitfläche (8) begrenzt und endet kurz vor dem Dosiersystem (12). Seine Länge beträgt mindestens 50 % der Strecke Überlaufplatte (4) - Dosierelement (9) und seine Öffnungsbreite senkrecht zur Gegenwalzenachse beträgt zwischen 1, 5 % und 15 % bevorzugt zwischen 2,5 % und 5 %, seiner Länge.
