[origin: EP0341211A2] For the purpose of bending pieces of sheet metal with the aid of a bending device which has a bending punch (1) and a die (2) with an adjustable plug (3), the actual bending characteristic (8) of a sample piece of sheet metal of the same thickness and the same quality of material is first of all determined and stored as a reference curve (8). In the course of the bending operation, the actual bending characteristic (9) is recorded and compared to the corresponding stored value.
