Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung (1) zum Herstellen von U- bzw. zick-zack-flrmig gefaltenen und überlappend in einem Stapel (2) ineinander greifend abgelegten Einzelblättern (3) bzw. von Tüchern, insbesondere aus saugfähigem Papier mit Hilfe von zwei Rollensätzen (4, 5) für zwei Materialbahnen (6, 7), wobei zwei an dem zu bildenden Stapel (2) angeordnete und bei der Stapelbildung sowie bei der Falzbildung zusammenwirkende Ablegewalzen (8, 9) und für jede Materialbahn mindestens je eine Messerwalze (11) mit einem Trennmesser (12) sowie Transport- und Zugwalzen (13) sowie eine Umlenkwalze (14) vorgesehen sind, die in einem Maschinenrahmen angeordnet sowie angetrieben sind. Der Kern der Erfindung liegt darin, daß jede Ablegewalze (8, 9) mindestens eine Knick- und Falzschneide (20) und mindestens ein bewegliches Greifelement (18) aufweist und daß ferner je mindestens ein Saugelement (23, 24) am Greifelement (18) und neben dem Greifelement (18) bzw. der Knick- und Falzschneide (20) jeweils am Umfang der Ablegewalze (8, 9) angeordnet ist.
