[origin: EP0484813A1] A coin blank consists of an inner disc (4) and an outer ring (3), which is pressed with said disc, of different physical properties. In order to improve the economic efficiency of the production of such coin blanks, the waste slug occurring during the punching of the ring (3) is used for the disc (4) to be inserted in the ring (3) and at least one of the components, ring (3) and disc (4), is permanently dyed before they are joined together. By forming, for example axially knurling, the dimensions of the slug are made into a shape suitable for joining together the coin. Both parts of the coin thus consist of the same base material. <IMAGE>
