A method and a device serve for placing surface channels (82) of at least approximately rectangular cross-section in panels of soft material, in particular mineral-fibre insulating mats (80) or panels of a styrene polymer. A motor-driven cutting tool (10) with oscillating cutting knife (20) is used. The cutting knife (20) has sections which are angled with respect to one another and are provided at least partly with a cutting edge. The cutting edge runs around over at least three or two sections, which together form a U or L. The cutting knife (20) is taken through the panels in an approximately straight line (83). <IMAGE>

Ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung dienen zum Einbringen von Oberflächenkanälen (82) mit wenigstens näherungsweise rechteckförmigem Querschnitt in Plattenmaterial aus weichem Werkstoff, insbesondere Mineralfaser-Dämmatten (80) oder Platten aus einem Styrol-Polymerisat. Es wird ein motorisch betriebenes Schneidwerkzeug (10) mit oszillierendem Schneidmesser (20) verwendet. Das Schneidmesser (20) weist zueinander angewinkelte Abschnitte auf, die mindestens teilweise mit einer Schneide versehen sind. Die Schneide läuft über mindestens drei bzw. zwei Abschnitte um, die miteinander ein U oder L bilden. Das Schneidmesser (20) wird näherungsweise geradlinig (83) durch das Plattenmaterial geführt <IMAGE>
