A process for operating an in particular vertically working briquetting press, preferably for small-sized, free-flowing metal parts such as scrap from machining, with a filling container (6) arranged ahead of a press chamber (18) accommodating a press ram (14), in which material up to a predetermined weight is poured into the filling container (6), the respective level of filling is determined and the initial position of the press ram for the following working stroke is set as a function of the level of filling, enables briquettes of the same size to be produced in a time-saving manner. Weight and filling-level transducers (8; 12) are allocated to the filling container (6), the filling-level transducer (12) being electrically connected to limit-stroke switches (27) for the press ram (14).

Ein Verfahren zum Betreiben einer, insbesondere vertikal arbeitenden Brikettierpresse, vorzugsweise für kleinstückige, schüttfähige Metallteile, wie Abfälle aus der spanabhebenden Bearbeitung, mit einem einer einen Preßstempel (14) aufnehmenden Preßkammer (18) vorgelagerten Füllbehälter (6), bei dem in den Füllbehälter (6) Material bis zu einem vorbestimmten Gewicht eingefüllt, der jeweilige Füllstand ermittelt und die Ausgangslage des Preßstempels für den folgenden Arbeitshub abhängig vom Füllstand eingestellt wird, ermöglicht es, gleichgroße Briketts zeitsparend herzustellen. Dem Füllbehälter (6) sind Gewichts- und Füllstands-Meßwertgeber (8; 12) zugeordnet, wobei die Füllstands-Meßwertgeber (12) elektrisch mit Hubbegrenzungsschaltern (27) für den Preßstempel (14) verbunden sind.
