A corner piece (4) is supplied to one edge (3) of the load (1) from the store (15) by said device (14) which alone can hold the corner piece (4) in place on the load edge (3) in at least a first area (16) while said piece (4) is fastened thereto, whereafter the device (14) is disengaged from said corner piece (4).

Procédé d'emballage d'une charge de forme générale prismatique et plus spécialement parallélépipédique dans lequel on place d'abord au moins une cornière de protection rigide (4) sur au moins une arête (3) de la charge (1) puis on assure son maintien rigide permanent sur la charge (1) et dans lequel on met en oeuvre un dispositif (14) de saisie, déplacement, dépôt et maintien de cornière de protection placé entre un magasin (15) de cornières de protection et l'arête (3) de la charge (1) à garnir d'une cornière; on amène une cornière de protection (4) sur une arête (3) de la charge (1) à partir du magasin (15) au moyen dudit dispositif (14) caractérisé par le fait qu'avec ce même dit dispositif (14) uniquement on maintient temporairement la cornière de protection (4) amenée et déposée sur l'arête (3) de la charge dans au moins une première zone (16) et, simultanément, on assure le maintien rigide de la cornière (4) sur la charge (1) et, une fois ce maintien rigide obtenu, on dégage ledit dispositif (14) de la cornière (4).
