The invention relates to a method and a device for printing web material (2). The device consists of a back pressure cylinder (1) with an elastic support for guiding the web material (2) and of a forme cylinder (4) which is assigned a roll (6) of foamed material which is soaked with a thermoplastic ink, the forme cylinder (4) and the roll (6) of foamed material being arranged in a heating chamber (5). The intention of the invention is to provide a method and a device for printing web material, in which an uninterrupted operation is made possible and optimum utilisation of the available thermoplastic ink is achieved. A device according to the invention is characterised by a supply unit with which thermoplastic ink in the solid state can be supplied to the roll (6) of foamed material via an aperture (7) in the heating chamber (4), the temperature in the heating chamber (4) being selected such that the thermoplastic ink can be melted onto the roll (6) of foamed material when it comes into contact therewith. <IMAGE>

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Bedrucken von Materialbahnen (2). Die Vorrichtung besteht aus einem Gegendruckzylinder (1) mit einer elastischen Auflage zur Führung der Materialbahn (2) und einem Klischeezylinder (4), dem eine mit einer thermoplastischen Farbe getränkte Schaumstoffrolle (6) zugeordnet ist, wobei der Klischeezylinder (4) und die Schaumstoffrolle (6) in einer Heizkammer (5) angeordnet sind. Durch die Erfindung sollen ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Bedrucken von Materialbahnen geschaffen werden, bei denen ein ununterbrochener Vorgang ermöglicht wird und eine optimale Ausnutzung der zur Verfügung stehenden thermoplastischen Farbe erreicht wird. Eine erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung ist gekennzeichnet durch eine Zuführeinheit, mit der thermoplastische Farbe im festen Zustand über eine Öffnung (7) in der Heizkammer (4) der Schaumstoffrolle (6) zuführbar ist und die Temperatur in der Heizkammer (4) so gewählt ist, daß die thermoplastische Farbe im Kontakt mit der Schaumstoffrolle (6) auf diese aufschmelzbar ist. <IMAGE>
