In a process for the production of a wide side wall (1) for a thin slab casting plant which has a widened region (4) which starts from the top edge and tapers towards the sides and the bottom, the 5-50 mm thick wide side wall (1), which is composed essentially of copper, is formed with a widened region by tensile deformation/tensile and compressive deformation. It is thereby possible to shape the widened region to give it any required configuration and size with little expenditure on apparatus and with a saving of material and energy. <IMAGE>

Ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Breitseitenwand (1) für eine Dünnbrammengießanlage, die einen von der Oberkante ausgehenden, zu den Seiten und nach unten auslaufenden Erweiterungsbereich (4) aufweist, wird die im wesentlichen aus Kupfer bestehende 5 - 50 mm dicke Breitseitenwand (1) durch Zugumformen/Zugdruckumformen mit einem Erweiterungsbereich gebildet. Dadurch kann der Erweiterungsbereich in jeder erforderlichen Gestaltung und Größe mit geringem Vorrichtungsaufwand, und Einsparung von Material und Energie geformt werden. <IMAGE>
