[origin: EP0679503A1] The upper die (1) is moved into closing position, and the pressing process is then carried out by the lower die (2). This is moved towards the upper die into its pressing position, to compress the powder. For redensification, the die plate (7) is moved over a set distance with the lower die at the end of the lower die press stroke. To execute a sliding upper pressing step, the die plate is moved synchronously with the lower die within an adjustable speed ratio and distance. Compression is against the stationary upper die, after this has been moved into closing position. <IMAGE>
