The appts. to apply a liquid or paste coating to a moving web, especially of paper, has at least one unit (6) to remove the carried air layer. It is between the support roller surface and the side (2.2) of the web (2) towards the support roller (4), at the entry side. Also claimed is an operation where the layer of air (8) carried by the web (2) is removed before the web coating point (A), in the direction of support roller (4) rotation. Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zum direkten oder indirekten Auftragen eines flüssigen oder pastösen Mediums auf eine laufende Materialbahn (2). Die Vorrichtung umfaßt wenigstens eine von der Materialbahn (2) teilweise umschlungene drehbare Stützwalze (4), welche eine der Stützwalze zugewandte Seite (2.2) der Materialbahn (2) stützt, wobei die Stützwalzenoberfläche und die Materialbahn (2) einen sich keilförmig verjüngenden Einlaufzwickel und einen Auslaufzwickel bilden; wenigstens ein der Stützwalze (4) gegenüberliegendes Auftragswerk (A) zum Beschichten einer der Stützwalze (4) abgewandten Seite (2.4) der Materialbahn (2) mit dem Medium und/oder zum Weiterbearbeiten der beschichteten Materialbahnseite (2.4); und wenigstens eine bezogen auf die Drehrichtung der Stützwalze (4) vor dem Auftragswerk (A) angeordnete Luftgrenzschicht-Entfernungseinrichtung (6, 10) zum Entfernen einer von der Stützwalze (4) und/oder der Materialbahn (2) mitgeführten Luftgrenzschicht (8). Die Luftgrenzschicht-Entfernungseinrichtung (6, 10) ist zwischen der Stützwalzenoberfläche und der der Stützwalze (4) zugewandten Seite (2.2) der Materialbahn (2) im Einlaufzwickel angeordnet. <IMAGE>
