Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9720271A1] A computer network (200) includes a network hub (202) which connects a plurality of computers (12) together. Data packets generated by the computers (12) are sequentially merged into a stream of data packets which is then broadcast to all of the computers (12) in the network (200). The network hub (202) includes a plurality of ports (206), each of which is connected to a respective one of the computers (12), receiving data packets generated by the computer (12). The network hub (202) also includes a plurality of storage devices (210) respectively connected to the ports (206). Each of the storage devices (210) receives and temporarily stores the data packets received by the port (206). A merging processor (212) is connected to each of the storage devices (210) and sequentially merges data packets temporarily stored by the storage devices (210) into a stream of data packets. The stream of data packets is then broadcast to each of the computers (12) in the network (200). The network hub (202) may communicate with each of the computers (12) to indicate the capacity status of the storage devices (210).
