[origin: EP0863273A2] A bar (5) filling the space between columns of a stair railing has its ends bent through 90 degrees to form ends (6) which can be fastened to other components (10) of the stair rails. A bore (11) is formed in the component by heated fluid, the material being heated to allow the bore to be formed without machining. A bush (12) is produced as the bore is formed and projects inside the component. The end of the filler bar is introduced through this bush. Preferably the end of the railing filler bar forms a press fit in the bush formed in the component. The end may include a sprung locking tongue (7).
