[origin: WO9736234A1] An object-oriented computer apparatus (100) generates a first instruction stream (124) by using a multi-block cache touch instruction generator (122) to insert a multi-block cache touch instruction (300) into a second instruction stream (123). The execution of the multi-block cache touch instruction by the processing unit (110) causes a prefetch of at least one of a plurality of multiple blocks of data or code from a main memory (120) into a plurality of cache lines of a cache memory. These multi-block touch instructions indicate the beginning address of a desired block in computer system memory and the amount of the block to be prefetched into cache. In response the cache will prefetch multiple lines into the cache.
