Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9813993A1] A computer applications platform (150) provides an interface between telecommunications networks, such as the Public Switched Telecommunications Network (160) in the UK, and data networks such as the Internet (155). Applications which run on the platform (150) can be used to call up resources, for instance for the delivery of recorded messages. Because the applications platform (150) bridges data and telecommunications networks, the services provided can be via either type of network. Therefore a user of the telecommunications network can trigger a fax or electronic mail message to be sent to a user on a data network. The service being requested by a user can be identified by the applications platform from a data field in an incoming data message, or by the direct dialled digits associated with an incoming telephony line.
