The control values for the roll slit profile are determined by means of a roll slit profile model which calculates the roll slit profile, and the calculated roll slit profile or an equivalent value is combined, especially by addition or multiplication, with a correction value (k) to give a corrected calculated roll slit profile (csum) so that the roll slit profile model (5) is adjusted to suit or adapted to the actual roll slit profile (cactual) of the rolling stand (1) by means of the correction value (k).
