Abstract (en)

[origin: FR2791847A1] The system uses free space within the analogue video signal to carry programme identification data, for audience research. A digital television programme which may be broadcast by satellite is received and the digital identifiers of the programme are extracted, and corresponding digital data forming the channel identifier is produced. The digital programme is transcoded into an analogue digital signal, and a digital data message corresponding to the channel identifier is inserted into a free line of the image signal. The resulting analogue signal is broadcast on a cable network. In the receiving television, the information content of successive lines of the video signal is analyzed, enabling identification of the programme. This information can be used by the receiving screen.
