Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0162413A2] The invention relates to a method for production of a lost mould for titanium casting, made from a hardenable packing material, comprising at least one oxidisable component, in particular, zirconium. Said method comprises at least the following steps: a) primary shaping of the mould by packing a model made from a fusible material in the packing material; b) hardening the packing material and melting the model material by heating and finally cooling the mould according to a pre-determined temperature time profile in a furnace. In order to achieve a mould with improved properties, the hardening of the packing material can be carried out under a protective gas atmosphere, or with reduced gas density, in particular at reduced pressure, or in a vacuum. Alternatively, after reaching and maintaining a maximum temperature the mould can be actively cooled, in order to reduce the cooling time.
