[origin: WO2004009896A1] The invention relates to a sewing needle machine comprising a shaft (3) which extends from one end, the envelope surface of said shaft being provided with at least one thread groove (6) extending in the direction of the end, from the region of the needle tip. The needle cross-section comprises, at least longitudinally, a first profiled region (13) having a basic shape of a semicircle into which grooves (6) are integrated, and a second profiled region (14) which borders the bottom straight line (H) of the semicircle, the basic shape of the second profiled region comprising, in relation to a symmetrical semicircle, a diminished cross-section (c) which is oriented perpendicularly to the bottom straight line (H) of the semicircle. The aim of the invention is to advantageously develop one such sewing machine needle. To this end, the diminished cross-section (c) is formed by an at least elliptical-like outer contour (15,16,17,18) of the second profiled region (14).
