Abstract (en)

[origin: DE10225612A1] The gas discharge lamp may have open gas inlet and outlet channels and is placed inside a chamber (10) in a metal block (2). A flat metal plate (3) is placed over the chamber to seal it. Channels (5,9) leading from the ends of the chamber are in communication with a gas inlet (E) and a gas outlet (A). There are vacuum channels (6) which enable the lid to be sucked down into close contact with the metal block. Heaters (4) in the block and (8) on the lid raise the temperature in the chamber to 500 degrees C to soften the material of the lamp and seal it. The chamber may be flushed with dry air, and then with a mixture of He, Ne and Xe.
