[origin: WO2005022829A1] A plug-in unit adapted for operation in a communication node, the node comprises among others a bus architecture and functional software, the node is adapted to operate in PDH/SDH microwave transport network, where the plug-in unit has at least a (traffic) switching function on-board and the plug-in unit is further adapted to support "not onboard" traffic switching functionality . The onboard switching functionality may typically support TDM, whereas the "not onboard" switching functionality may be a high capacity ATM switch.
