[origin: WO2011024010A2] A power inverter arranged to receive input power having an input voltage across first and second input terminals, comprises a first switching arm, a second switching arm,and a voltage divider coupled across the input terminals. The first switching arm comprises first and second switching elements. The second switching arm comprises third and forth switching elements. The first and second switching arms are connected in series across the input terminals. Drive circuitry drives each of the switching elements to produce switching waveforms such that the voltage across each of the switching arms remains below a predetermined proportion of the input voltage.
