[origin: WO2011141233A1] A method for operating a drive train having a drive unit comprising at least one electric machine (2) and an internal combustion engine (1), wherein an automated shift transmission is connected between the internal combustion engine (1) and an output (4), wherein the electric machine (2) is coupled via a friction clutch (5) to a shaft of the shift transmission, and wherein shift operations in the shift transmission are carried out, interrupting the drive torque provided by the drive unit on the output (4) in that, firstly, the drive torque provided on the output drive (4) is dissipated, then the actual shift operation is carried out and, following that, drive torque is built up again on the output (4), wherein, in order to carry out the actual shift operation, after disengaging a current gear of the circuit and before engaging a target gear of the circuit, the shaft of the shift transmission (3) to which the electric machine (2) is coupled via the friction clutch (5) is synchronized by utilizing an inertial mass of the electric machine (5).
