[origin: EP2749419A1] The method involves operating an intermediate buffer (5) loaded with printed products, and operating a processing station (4) formed downstream of the buffer. The printed products are processed to finished printed products in the processing station. A command is provided to a digital printing machine (2) or to another intermediate buffer (16) during printed product-related error or during absence of the products in printing process or in a controller (1). The defective printed products are conveyed directly to defective points in the processing station over an automatic conveying line (8). An independent claim is also included for a production line.
