Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Verpressen einer Pressgutmatte im Zuge der Herstellung von Holzwerkstoffplatten, insbesondere Faserplatten, in einer kontinuierlichen Presse, wobei die Presse ein Pressengestell (1), zumindest eine obere Pressenplatte (2, 5) und zumindest eine untere Pressenplatte (3, 6) aufweist, wobei die obere Pressenplatte (2, 5) und/oder die untere Pressenplatte (3, 6) zur Einstellung eines zwischen den Pressenplatten angeordneten Pressspaltes mit am Pressengestell (1) abgestützten Presszylindern (7, 8) beaufschlagt wird, wobei von den Pressenplatten (5, 6) einlaufseitig ein Einlaufbereich gebildet wird, indem die in den Pressspalt einlaufende Pressgutmatte (M) während einer Verdichtungsphase verdichtet wird. Dieses Verfahren ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die obere Pressenplatte (5) und/oder die untere Pressenplatte (6) zumindest in dem Einlaufbereich zumindest bereichsweise zyklisch pulsierend abgesenkt und angehoben wird, so dass die in den Einlaufspalt einlaufende Pressgutmatte durch mehrfach zyklisches Verdichten und Entlasten mittels der im Einlaufbereich an die obere Pressenplatte und/oder die untere Pressenplatte angeschlossenen Presszylinder nacheinander mehrere pulsierend variierende Kompressionsphasen und Dekompressionsphasen durchläuft.
