If the trigger condition (16) has been satisfied, a specified common delete command (17) is transmitted to the plurality of controllers (12) of the motor vehicle (10) via a data bus (11) of the motor vehicle (10), and each controller (12) carries out a specified delete routine (18) if the controller has received the delete command (17) from the data bus (11), said delete routine being used to overwrite and/or delete user data (15) stored on the respective controller (12).
